Post by Ethicless Mon Jul 19, 2010 10:06 am

After my birthday I should have all the money to start buying all the pieces for my PC. So I am looking for some feedback on this PC build i have. All the parts are about 1500 dollars and my friend is going to build it for about 10% of the cost. I do not know a lot about PCs, my friend does but he also does a lot of things just to be different, example he pushes AMD real hard for no apparent reason other than he just "doesn't like intel." So here is my build, If you want to make some suggestions try to keep it similar in price.

Here the web sight for you to shop at

Hard dives

First 2 Western Digital 150 GB drives 16 bit
cash set up in a Zero raid configuration. This will give you twice the speed of
the Tera bit drive they cost about 119.99 each. This will give you stupid speed
in game play and map loading. Or if you have the cash on hand. Get Two
VeloRaptors 600 GB drive with a 32 bit cache transfer rate . Remember this you
can all most double your speed of your drives if you set them up in a Zero raid
configuration.

150 GB with 16 Cache is 119.99 or the 600 GB

Ethic, what you have is fine. I would suggest however that instead of the Nvidia 250 you are looking at, you should consider just getting the 285 or higher since those are recommended for ultra mode. Little more pricey, but worth it in the long run.

What you suggested looks pimp blk but im getting a head ache trying to decipher it. It is also nearly twice as much as what I am currently thinking so i can either keep saving and get a PC next year this time, or just roll with what i got and hope i get a job sometime in the next 3 years so i can upgrade when it is necessary.

Thanks for taking a look at it Molecular and blk.

while looking up the new vid card you suggested i found this that I can buy, a bit cheaper after switching the vid cards out and will get shipped directly to me already built and has alot of the same specs + 2 gigs more ram and i wont have to wait for my friend (there is really no telling how long it will be). Some of the reviews are bad but again some of them are good so idk, what do you think?

apparently the bad reviews are everywhere not just on newegg. I have looked around and it seems the CyberPowerPCs are very hit or miss, and more frequently miss. They seem to work fine after you get them and toy with them a bit, in most cases anyway. Some actually work right out of the box but this may be a gamble and for a hundred dollars (thats the difference in price) i think i should just let my friend build it. Idk like i said i dont know alot about PCs ha

Some PC's are somewhat hit or miss especially if they are cheap.

Don't get an e-machine...my experience is they die within 1 yr once the warranty is void.

I imagine its the same with some of these 'store bought' pcs.

Hewlitt Packards are better from my experience and their support is better than average...

If you have enough savy I suggest build your own somewhat works well.

The current PC I have has run for me since spring of 2004. build with the latest Motherboard and upgraded some since with Video cards and Ram.

For the love of god, if you need to buy a store bought PC, get a friggin HP. Emachines are crap, and dells are even worse then that. Also, there is absolutely no need to spend almost 1800 on a fuckin computer. Try using tigerdirect. they have a better selection than newegg, and are usually priced the same or cheaper. My system cost me about 1100 with the shipping and I have no issues with it. I'm guessing you're not too computer savvy, which is not a bad thing, so you can get pre-built systems from tiger direct. Also, in case it's hard to find on the site here, my cell number is 702-203-4574. Call me if you have questions since I don't really look here everyday and may miss any important questions. MY phone is almost always on, and if I don't answer, shoot me a text message and I will call you back.

Alright i will definitely look on tigerdirect. I am most definitely not computer savvy. I used to be some what computer literate in high school but so much has changed i don't know anything anymore. I basically want a PC that can run ultra mode and most games and that is semi upgradable. My current PC i got in highschool and i went from 1 gig to 2 gigs of ram and thats it. Like i said i should have a job sometime soon (i hope anyway, if no i am seriously fucked) so i will be able to get soemthing new in a few years if necessary. I will let you know what i find molecular, thanks again.

If you can get a liquid cooled system for the same price as one that isn't, then I'll slap the shit out of you if you don't take the liquid cooled system. You'll have far better performance since your stuff will stay noticably cooler. Video cards are no big shakes. I'll look at the links and see which one has what card then edit this post here.

EDIT: Go with the liquid cooled. ATI Cards are crappy to have becuase the drivers ATI pushes for them are seriously flawed and you will have issues. Stick with Nvidia for now, and gun for the liquid cooling.

Will the 250 be able to run in ultra mode seeing that there are 2 of them in SLI mode? I am thinking i may go with this one. It seems like a good deal and has all the specs that I want.

Yes the card will work fine. Get the liquid cooled one and replace the card with the Nivida.

EVGA 015-P3-1489-AR GeForce GTX 480 (Fermi) 1536MB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card'

Thic card can be liquid cooled with your system setup so you woun't have to worry about over heating it and you can over clock the shader.

Don't go cheapo on your Video card.

But Hey it's your FAIL if you do, and have to up grade it in a six months or a year. LOL

Yes the 250s will work in ultra mode so will the Nivida 800s. But if you going to spend your money get the mac daddy and don't worry about it.

Gees Dream all you want too buddy but make up your mind.
But be sure to check out the warranty on the whole thing first be for you buy remember this at all times Buyer beware your on your own. Tech support means no support in a lot of company's. I've only been building these things for 15 years now lol

Yes the best Villains have the best toy to kill you with in game. Keep that in mind if you buy a cheap system.

The liquid cooling one has 2 Geforce 250s 1 gig a piece in SLI mode. And yeah you were talking about them overheating. The case kinda scares me, i dont see many fans on it at all. Tehre is one on the top, and there are vents in the side window. None on the back that i can tell but i could be wrong.

Ethicless, stop listening to blk. Go with the liquid cooled one and leave the video cards alone. You're system will be just fine for a while before you'll need to worry about upgrading.

I think someone out there hates me cause just my fucking luck, i go and look at the page with the PC i want, and it is no longer avliable. I called Tigerdirect, they say it is out of stock and they will not be receiving any more...ugh!! He recomended the other PC i posted. I am thinking that one as well now, or i could get another liquid cooled one by Ultra with i5...I am thinking the i7 is definitely the way to go though

I also just foudn this ibuypower machine for the same price..12 gigs just like the other one but it only has 1 video card, but it is a nicer card..stil a radeon though
